How to Repair your Credit-Part 2:
Disputing Online:
Credit bureaus are making it more convenient for you to dispute errors in your Credit Report online under the promise of being not only fast but convenient. What they do not tell you is that is easy and convenient for them, not for you. An important piece of information they are not giving away is that if you dispute any items online you are giving away major rights in the process. Your rights.
When you dispute online, Credit Bureaus use E-Oscar to verify the accuracies of an account. One of the tools you have as a follow to their response is the Method of Verification (MOV) which Credit Bureaus have 15 days to respond to this request.
However, if you dispute online, you lose this right due to the clause in the FCRA that states that “the agency shall not be required to comply with paragraph 7” and you lose that leverage to take any action against them in court or with the FTC.
Also, Credit bureaus are required by law to provide you a 5 day written notice prior to re-inserting deleted items usually called “Soft Delete.” If you dispute online, you lose this leverage. They are not required to provide the 5 day written notice and deleted items can be placed back on your credit report pretty much with notification.
Do all of your dispute in writing. Keeping meticulous records in an important aspect of the credit repair process. You need to have a paper trail or you will get railroaded!!
